It's Friday already and I thought I'd give you a little visual inspiration to carry you into the weekend. Both of these prints are by Haeckel. The illustration above is a representation of Ceylon, now known as Sri Lanka. The illustration below is of jellyfish

What I find intriguing about the juxtaposition of these two is the similarity of form. Above ground, the banyan's aerial roots hang down like tresses. So too, the jellyfish tentacles resemble a mass of curls flowing from it's softly domed head.
It makes me think about free motion quilting designs. And about color combinations. And about doodling. What does it evoke for you?
I LOVE the colors and perspective this artist has used. I'm guessing late 19th century/early 20th century?
ReplyDeleteIt inspires fresh ideas for me in home decor and wall art.
I will notify you when I get around to posting the jellyfish pictures - they will connect with this post perfectly. Hope your weekend is going great. Carolina
ReplyDeleteI've got a book of prints by Haeckel. It's not just his amazing detail of his subject but the patterns he makes with the layout of his drawings. beautiful! My mum is from Ceylon, it was called that when she lived there so I grew up saying Ceylon and no one knew what I was talking about. After a while I learnt that if I said Sri Lanka people would know.
