It takes hot sunny days to grow a garden. So far, there's not enough of either to make peppers or tomatoes happy. However, the Zapotec tomato is showing some promise. I can't wait for these. They may look weird, but they have incredible taste. Great for a caprese salad.
We're having much better luck with the chard. Saute in olive oil with garlic and serve with a dash of apple cider vinegar. A perfect accompaniment to feijoada, ,black eyed peas and cornbread or barbecued chicken. The rest of the garden....not so productive.
It's a good thing I have such loving company while I water the garden and pull weeds. Otherwise, I might begin to think it wasn't worth the trouble.
I love your tomato photo! The closeup of details reminds me a bit of Jane Sassamans fabrics and the chard reminds me of Matha Negleys beautiful fabric prints. Lol, i'm always thinking about fabric! Rainbow chard is the first thing I plant, Its so rewarding because is grows so easily and is so tasty. I sometimes just chop it up for salads or use it to make vegetarian lasagne. Its nice to see you have such handsome company.
ReplyDeleteThe heat has been hanging out over here. It has been unbearably hot.We did get a little relief this afternoon from a downpour. I like seeing the progress on your garden. We eat the swiss chard like you do (minus the vinegar) and if there are any left-overs it goes on a pizza the next day. Hopefully your tomatoes will get a chance to ripen. When they do, take some more pictures. I will pray for sun on your side of the continent. Carolina
ReplyDeleteCarolina: My grandfather was the one who taught me to put apple cider vinegar on greens. Just a splash. It's really a substitute for the vinegar that comes in the small jars of hot banana wax peppers.
ReplyDeleteLove the Chard photo! Beautiful!
