My stack of Garden Divas is filling the days with fabric play. Making up my patterns in the new collection, like this file folder holder, is one type of play. The kind without surprises.
And then there is the kind of fabric play I like best. The kind where you pick a portion of the design, start cutting and see where it leads. I still don't know where this one is going. But I know I like the way blue zinnias stand out.
These little squares will get a chance to play too when the solids arrive. Having them cut and stacked provides a hint of future fun. Something to fuel my subconscious.
Having things in various stages of completion actually helps me be more creative because it keeps me from getting bored with any one part of the process. The hard part is getting them all finished while not losing any of the ideas that spring to mind while I'm in the midst of something else. This is why my desk and sewing area is strewn with notes on bits of scrap paper, Post-It notes and scratch pads. I have a new way to deal with those but that's for another post.
How do you play? With a clear cut goal and a pattern? Or do you thrive on unknowns? Do you prefer to do things one at a time? Or have multiple ongoing projects?
That looks like a load of fun! I think that I would drive myself crazy because I wouldn't know when to stop playing to give myself the rest from over load of creativity!
ReplyDeleteI love what you do with Janes fabric! I have about 100 projects going on, I always tell myself I'll finish one before I start another but I get caught up with ideas. Post it notes are a good idea. I have creative notebooks but usually backs of envelopes, scraps of paper end up with ideas on them, then I lose them, but sometimes I find them again and it begins the thought process but with a fresh open mind.
ReplyDeleteMultiple projects, with a clear cut goal. Too bad one of those goals wasn't to finish said multiple projects. :)
ReplyDeleteMultiple projects - clear cut goals that get tossed aside in a breath of inspiration. I let the things like your blue zinnias define the path.
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to your projects. I am sure your espresso machine will be humming as much as your sewing machine. Carolina
PS, still got the hiccups.
