Unwelcome Guests

Last night, we had revelers move into the space beneath our fireplace.  All black tie and fancy coiffures.  They're not morning people, these unexpected neighbors.  Unless 1 a.m. is considered morning.  They're up late, chattering and chirping.  Which would be one thing.  Releasing Eau de Skunk at 1:30 a.m. is quite another.

It was so strong and pungent I barely got any sleep.  And when I went out today, someone actually noticed the lingering smell.  No spray got in the house.  It's on the outside of the house underneath the fireplace.  Not anywhere near my clothes or purse or anything.  That thiol is one nasty chemical compound.

We're stocked up now on moth balls and ammonia.  Skunks aren't supposed to like either one.  But then again, skunks are know to be stubborn.  So if Skunk Haven at Casa P is too inviting, we may have to resort to trapping and releasing--after their little cozy cottage is sealed up, of course.

Stay tuned for more drama!  Oh, and in case any of you are wondering, the cat is completely unaffected by it all.

  1. I've sometimes wondered how bad skunk smell must be, sounds pretty bad. I'm sure we have a snake in the roof of our house. I can hear slithery noises sometimes. Apparently it's common around here but it freaks me out a bit. oh well its better than rats. Maybe I should send the snake over to eat your skunk.

  3. You need to get yourself a "critter gitter" and be done with it, in other words - trap and release. I always wonder if Pepe Le Pew can find his way back to his odorous home no matter how far from home he is released. After Pepe Le Pew and his peeps are vacated you can line their abode with the moth balls and ammonia. You are lucky to have a cat instead of a dog. With a dog comes those hefty cans of tomato juice. Good luck. Carolina
